Greece is expanding its tourism offering by investing in military tourism, officially presenting a Common Integrated Action Plan for the Development of Military Tourism on 17 September at the Athens War Museum.
A collaboration between the Greek ministries of National Defense, Culture and Tourism, the aim of the new action plan is to protect and promote Greece’s rich military history and heritage through the establishment of an appealing, year-round tourism product.
According to the Athens War Museum’s press release, the museum itself is coordinating the implementation of this new action plan.
The Decentralized Administration of Western Greece is already integrating military and historical tourism into its own strategy, connecting themed routes, museums and places of remembrance.
In a statement released by the Administration, Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Development of Western Greece, Panagiotis Sakellaropoulos, announced plans for the development of themed products such as “In the Footsteps of Freedom” and the “Holocaust and Resistance Routes.”
The regional government of Western Greece will also collaborate with Greek military schools to organize educational visits.
