The U.S. Embassy in Athens, in collaboration with the Municipality of Piraeus and Olympiacos F.C., has unveiled the Pop-Up American Space @Karaiskakis located at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
An extension of the American Corner Piraeus at the Piraeus Municipal Library, the new space merges technology, education, and sports to deepen cultural ties between Greece and the United States.
The space offers visitors the chance to experience both American and Greek sports culture through advanced technology, including video game consoles, virtual reality devices, tablets, computers, and screens.
With the support of the American Corner, the Pop-Up American Space also provides resources for students exploring opportunities to study in the U.S. and facilitates cultural and educational programs for schools and youth groups, to foster bilateral collaboration.

Speaking at the launch event, U.S. Ambassador George Tsunis highlighted the shared vision of Piraeus Mayor Yannis Moralis and Olympiacos F.C. President Evangelos Marinakis that Piraeus symbolizes “opportunity, and possibility.”
At Karaiskakis Stadium, Ambassador Tsunis remarked, “We come together to build bridges, to offer the people of Piraeus educational opportunities,” positioning the U.S. and Greece as sources of inspiration to the world. “This is the work that the U.S. Embassy, the Library of Piraeus, Piraeus City Hall, and Olympiacos does.”
Piraeus Mayor and Olympiacos F.C. Vice President Yannis Moralis emphasized the transformative potential of the Pop-Up American Space @Karaiskakis, calling it an environment that combines entertainment, knowledge, and the values of sports to benefit the youth of Piraeus.
He also expressed gratitude to Ambassador Tsunis and his team at the U.S. Embassy for their initiative, highlighting how it fosters stronger ties between Greece and the United States.
Olympiacos F.C. President Evangelos Marinakis spoke of the deep connection between the United States and Piraeus, a city from which so many Greek emigrants began their long journey to the U.S. “They lived in the U.S., built their careers, and I believe they contributed significantly to the American dream and what we all admire in the U.S. today,” Marinakis said.
He also expressed hope that the Pop-Up American Space would provide the people of Piraeus, especially the youth, with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the United States.
