A new Hollywood movie that will be filmed in Thessaloniki next month is set to create more than 1,000 jobs and contribute to the promotion of the region.
“The Bricklayer,” an action-thriller directed by Renny Harlin and starring Aaron Eckhart and Nina Dobrev, begins filming in Thessaloniki on March 15, the Central Macedonia Governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas announced recently.
Tzitzikostas met with Millennium Media producer Robert Van Norden, Central Macedonia Film Office officials and Vice Governor for Tourism and Culture Alexandros Thanos to discuss production details of the film.
Scenes will be shot at the Millennium studio in Thermi, throughout the city of Thessaloniki, in Halkidiki and in several Central Macedonia locations.
At least 3,000 background actors will be required for the film which has an estimated budget of $23.9 million. The production will involve local professionals with certain parts to be filmed in Greek.
Tzitzikostas underlined the film’s importance for Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia as it will showcase the region worldwide. The producer said the film would benefit the local economy by employing workers from dozens of sectors and involving local businesses.
Van Norden said he was happy to be filming in the region.
“Through the film we will present for the first time Thessaloniki and Central Macedonia to the world as a new film set,” the Millennium Media producer said. “We will portray the city as it is — a modern, urban center with a long history and roots in the past.”
