Giannis Antetokounmpo Named GQ’s Athlete of the Year

An NBA championship, a White House visit and now “Athlete of the Year” honors from GQ — these are but a few of the many achievements that Giannis Antetokounmpo can celebrate in 2021.

Just one week after Antetokounmpo and his teammates visited President Joe Biden at the White House, GQ announced the Milwaukee Bucks superstar was among the honorees of its “Men of the Year” series.

The magazine has branded 2021 as “Year of the Brave” and says that its three cover stars — Antetokounmpo, actor Tom Holland and rapper Lil Nas X — “embody the spirit of bravery.” Recent past “Men of the Year” honorees include George Clooney, Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino and comedian Trevor Noah, among others.

On Tuesday, GQ published an article about Antetokounmpo’s “fairy-tale rise” to stardom and his “whirlwind next chapter” as he decides where to go next.

The Athens native led the Bucks to their first NBA championship in 47 years and won the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP award for his outstanding performance.
