Greece expects more than one million visitors from the United States in 2023 due to increased and improved flight connections between the two countries. The numbers also point to Greece as an increasingly year-round destination rather than simply an island-hopping summer spot.
Direct flights from the US will see a big boost in arrivals and revenue, with Greece expected to net over 1 billion dollars in revenue in the coming tourism season, according to Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
In an interview recently with Greek public broadcaster ERT, Kikilias also made reference to the increased number of flights connecting the US with Greece this year.
Delta, United, American Airlines, and Emirates will all operate direct flights from the US this year, connecting Athens with New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Boston.
Kikilias noted that Greece is becoming a year-round destination for travelers, including US travelers, while also noting that Americans are spending more time in Athens.
