Jackie Kennedy Onassis Wedding Dress Up for Auction

How much would you pay for a piece of Greek wedding history?

From September 16, 2024 to September 26, 2024, Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s Valentino wedding dress is going up for auction at Bonhams—and the online bidding will start at $8,000 to $12,000, according to a press release from the auction house.

The former first lady donned this unique piece, which featured a beige lace turtleneck bodice with bishop sleeves and a pleated knee-length skirt, for her second nuptials when she tied the knot with Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis on October 20, 1968, held on Aristotle’s private island of Skorpios, Greece.

Jackie’s second wedding dress, which was part of Valentino’s Spring 1968 haute couture collection, made a tremendous impact on bridal fashion at the time.

With its beige hue and short silhouette, her ensemble proved that brides can think beyond the traditional princess-like ball gown for their big day.

She was considered a trailblazer, paving the way for modern brides to follow suit and take risks with their attire choices.

“Jackie really found her voice and used it by picking this beautiful Valentino piece,” said Marissa Speer, Bonhams’s head of sales for handbag and fashion, in an interview with Women’s Wear Daily.
