(Photos) Greece’s First Olympic Gold at Rio Games to Shooter Anna Korakaki

Capturing her second medal of the Rio 2016 Olympics after a bronze finish in the 10m pistol competition on Monday, Greece’s Anna Korakaki took part in what NBC News called “an epic showdown” against Germany’s Monika Karsch and won the Gold Medal.

The 20-year-old Korakaki won the first three rounds to go up 6-0, but the 33-year-old German shooter clawed back to win the next three rounds to tie it up.

In the final round, according to NBC, Karsch missed two of her first three but Korakaki missed her fourth shot, putting immense pressure on herself to hit the final shot for gold or risk a tie. Korakaki nailed it, and jumped up to celebrate.

Korakaki’s medals are the only two Greece has won at the 2016 Rio Games thus far.
